On view : Frieze Masters London - Roland Dorcély

Loeve&Co is thrilled to be part of Frieze Masters in the Spotlight section with a first time retrospective dedicated to the works of Roland Dorcély (1930-2017). Showcasing works from his first period in Haïti from the early 50s alongside his parisian paintings from 1958 to 1962, as well as rare later pieces from the 80s.

This presentation will follow his entry into the Centre Pompidou permanent collection in 2023, and his inclusion in the Paris Noir exhibition in 2025. It will precede an exhibition at the Fondation Clément in 2027.

Roland Dorcély embraced modernism in 1950s Paris, training under Fernand Léger and moving in the circles of Michel Leiris. His poems were published by Sartre. His works has been in the MoMA's collection since 1958. In the middle au 60s he withdrew from the art scene, and left Paris for Haïti, ceasing to produce work except on rare occasions.
